Eastern Africa Farmers Federation


The Eastern African Farmers Federation (EAFF), formed in 2001, it is a non-political, non-profit and democratic organisation, whose role is to voice the concerns and interests of farmers of the region to enhance their social-economic status and regional cohesiveness. EAFF’s establishment was championed by national farmers’ organisations from Kenya, Tanzania, Uganda, Rwanda and DR Congo and membership was subsequently extended to Burundi, Eritrea, Djibouti, Ethiopia and South Sudan. EAFF membership is now composed of 22 farmer organisations serving about 20 millions of farmers.

WeatherSafe is a remote information and management tool for the agri-food supply chain stakeholder. Our unique predictive model leverages satellite data, experts’ knowledge and live farm data, to provide timely and targeted recommendations via web platform and mobile apps. WeatherSafe’s mission is to improve agriculture decision-making and investment planning, enhance crops’ and final products’ quality,yield and profit throughout the entire value chain, from the farmer to the end-user. WeatherSafe’s initial focus is the Rwandan coffee sector, providing a solution for several issues, in particular coffee pests and diseases which reduce up to 50% of the yields annually.

Catholic Relief Services

The Catholic Relief Service’s ICT4D team will demonstrate the Farmbook suite of tools and methods that can be used by “field agents” to improve the reach, effectiveness and value of agriculture extension services, from the public and private sector. The Farmbook suite includes tools, training and consulting services that will enable farmers and farm associations to stabilise and improve farm productivity and link farmers to markets. We plan to exhibit four products:

NEPAD Planning & Coordinating Agency

NEPAD’s Comprehensive Africa Agriculture Development Programme (CAADP) is about transforming Africa’s agriculture for sustained food security and socio-economic growth. CAADP is Africa’s policy framework to stimulate accelerated agricultural growth, improve food security and strengthen the resilience of the environment in Africa. CAADP was endorsed by African Heads of State and Government at the 2003 AU Summit held in Maputo, Mozambique. This programme is premised on four broad priority action areas: 
1) Sustainable land management and reliable water control systems; 
2) Private sector development, rural infrastructure and improved trade related capacities for market access; 
3) Increasing food supply and reducing hunger; and 
4) Agricultural research, technology dissemination and adoption.
